Reviews of Angel TV Show

Pop Matters Angel (David Boreanaz) is grumpy by tv hero standards. And no wonder. He's a vampire with his soul restored, which means that he's condemned not only to an eternity of general pain and blood-craving, but also to an eternity of guilt, for the lives he's taken during his centuries of soulless bloodsucking. DVD Journal It's the way the world of television works: Take a phenomenally popular TV show — in this case, Buffy the Vampire Slayer — and create another show featuring one of the main characters. The results are often embarrassing. But sometimes, as with Joss Whedon's spin-off Angel, the result is arguably better than the original product. David Boreanaz stars as the broody vampire-with-a-soul, fated to walk the earth fully cognizant of the horrors he's wrought and suffering for his sins. Dawn Taylor

The DVD Report Nominated for 25 Saturn Awards and one Emmy for Outstanding Makeup for a Series, Angel has established a strong cult following during its five-year run on the WB network. A spin-off of the enormously popular series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel has followed in the footsteps of its predecessor and boasts many of the same heroes and villains. Created by Joss Whedon, the show is one of a number of successful original series aired by WB including Buffy, Smallville, Dawson's Creek, and Gilmore Girls among others… Britt Gillette

DVD Verdict Any fantasy or scifi show runs into a specific conundrum: "How can we get a human element out of the freakish or far out?" And Angel seemed able to provide that in spades. It began to comment on humanity as well as it did on vampires and lawyers who lived outside the human race. How gleefully fun that is! Two evil soulless creatures locked in a death match…lawyer versus vampire! But, dang it, the show made me feel for both. Cullum's Dossier
