My Son just got a new Sony Playstation from Grandma! I must admit it is very fun to play. I often am amazed at how quickly my five year old son can pick up and learn a new video game. Once he masters it, or sees a colorful new advertisement I often hear the question, "Dad how much is that game? Can we buy it?" You may already know the answer - $30, $40, and sometimes $50 for a video game! I often find myself looking for ways to save money on a new video game.

The first and best option is eBay! There is a huge selection of new and used video games for all formats including Playstation, Xbox, and Gamecube. You can often save a lot of money on a used video games. I usually plan on spending between $9 and $15 for used video games. Depending on demand some may be a little higher or lower in price, but for the most part you can save around 50% when buying on eBay.

Video game stores are popping up all around. Game stores often buy and sell used games. This way you can trade in a game you have finished to help buy a new one. I have found that these games stores usually sell a specific games for a few more bucks than what eBay offers. If you need a game now, this offers the prefect solution to saving money. If you can wait a week I would still try the eBay option. Hey, every dollar counts!

A third and final option is a video game rental service. I know Blockbuster and Hollywood Video offer monthly rental services for around $20 a month. This allows a large selection of games to play and it is very convenient. If you are an avid gamer this is probably the best option. If you only find yourself buying a few games a month then I would stick with eBay or a Game Store. You will pay about the same, but you own the video game, which of course you could sell and get some of your money back!
