eBay Registration

eBay has emerged as a common everyday word. Before the year 2000 many of us probably never heard of the service. You can usually find a great product at a great price. There is quite an addictive thrill from winning an auction, especially when you get a deal!

Lets say you are looking for a DVD that you want to add to your home entertainment collection. You may wander around your local movie store for a while finding prices anywhere from $15 to $20. I would bet that eBay has several offers on the same DVD at a better price. The question is; How do you have a good experience making your first purchase on eBay?

One of the first things you need to do before bidding on an item on eBay is to check the sellers feedback reputation. This represents the number of items in which the buyer or seller left feedback for this particular user. This feedback is in the form of a positive, neutral, or negative response. I recommend not to buy from anyone with a feedback rating less than 97%. You can always take a gamble with someone who is new and has no feedback, but you may have some hiccops during the payment and shipping transactions. I often click on the sellers feedback rating and read some comments before buying any item.

The second step in ensuring a good transaction on eBay is to read the auction carefully. Make sure you understand exactly what you are going to bid in. If you feel that you need more information ask the seller a question. It's always better to ask first, because you do not want any surprises when the item arrives at your door. Also check where the sellers location is (city and state) this will give you an idea of how long the shipping process will take. It also lets you know if the seller is from the United States or outside the country.

A third way to having a good experience on eBay is to be a PayPal user and buy from some one who is PayPal verified. PayPal is eBay's credit card transaction service. It is safe, secure, and easy to use. It allows for prompt payment and detail transaction records. It's the most preferred method of payment on eBay and many sellers only accept PayPal for payment.

One final way to be happy after a purchase on eBay is to understand the bidding process. First see if the item has a reserve price. A reserve price is the minimum price the seller is willing to accept. If the reserve price is not met, the seller does not have to proceed with the sale. Most auctions on eBay do not have a reserve price. An item starts at a low price, usually under $10, and bidders make a bid on what they are willing to pay for the item. Lets say an item is currently at $15.01 with 2 bidders. If you make a bid of $16.00 two things could happen. The item may go to $16.01 because the previous bidder placed a higher bid amount. Or you take the bid at 1 cent more than the highest bid of the previous bidder. You can always return to the auction and make a higher bid. Just remember two things when bidding on eBay. Don't bid higher than you are willing to pay. Watch the item near the end of the auction, because this is when the most aggressive bidding occurs.

eBay is fun and exciting. You can find almost anything on eBay. If you understand the basics of eBay you will have a positive experience and usually come away with a great deal.
