Not much has changed over the years, or in the parents, who go through various forms of discomfort and disapproval before finally caving in when they realize the fiance is, after all, a heck of a nice guy with a great future ahead of him.

Despite the allusion in the title, Guess Who is not a remake of the classic Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. In fact, other than borrowing the underlying premise (girl brings home boyfriend of a different race to meet her family), there are few similarities between the films.

On its surface, the muddled new ''Guess Who" is a love story between Theresa (Zoë Saldana) and Simon (Ashton Kutcher). She is black. He is not. This is not important to them. But the movie needs something to do for 100 minutes, so it concocts a lot of harebrained physical comedy.

But it's hardly worth getting worked up about. Guess Who is just a succession of tired race jokes made worse by the bad comedic timing of the bland, under-talented Ashton Kutcher. Perhaps a more accurate title would have been Dude, Meet the Black Parents.

In 38 years, "Guess Who" will probably seem as dated as the earlier film seems today, but in the meantime this is a winning comedy, with solid comic performances from Bernie Mac as the father of a young black woman who shows up on his doorstep with a white guy, and from Ashton Kutcher, as the white guy.
