So You Think You Can Dance TV Show is a spin off of American Idol and has been able to gain it’s own identity and success. The second season really brought the show to the top of the Summer’s rating with Benji’s star performances. The show follows the American Idol format and starts off with several auditions which eventually lead to 20 finalists. After a while the judges turn the voting over to America, who choose the winner by telephone and text voting.
Pop Matters Cut from the same cloth as American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance blends earnest if cheesy spectacle and reality TV conventionality. Apparently, this was enough to make it the “most TiVoed show” during the week of 24 July. Lee Wang
Variety Obviously hoping to follow in the footsteps of ABC’s summer hit “Dancing With the Stars,” the creators of “American Idol” have applied their proven musical star-making formula to a dance competition for Fox, and it seems a sure thing ratings-wise. Laura Fries
