The 40 Year Old Virgin is proof that motion picture comedies can still be funny. Sadly, the kind of consistent humor delivered by this film happens too rarely.

Here's a movie that could have had the same title and been a crude sex comedy with contempt for its characters. Instead, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" is surprisingly insightful, as buddy comedies go, and it has a good heart and a lovable hero.

Last year he killed a man with a triton in Anchorman, and earlier this year he terrorized office workers on television in the underrated American version of “The Office”. But it’s The 40 Year-Old Virgin that is the nearly forty three year-old Steve Carell’s big break, the lead role in a film that’ll go down as one of the funniest movies ever made. Yeah, it’s that good.

"The 40 Year Old Virgin" is one of those rare R-rated comedies that can be described as sweet. As if that weren't enough, it's capped by a brilliantly looney lip-synched rendition of "Aquarius" that begins in Andy's bed and ends as a free-spirited dance by reassembled cast members.
